The Buckeye State

Conservative Dating Ohio: Heartland Values, Heartfelt Dates

The one state we cover where men and women are almost evenly matched.

An even match in the heartland

Ohio is different from every other state we cover: our members here are split almost exactly between men and women. Most are between 25 and 44, with about a quarter aged 45 or over.

Ohio has moved firmly into the Republican column in recent elections, and outside the big cities it is a state of county fairs, Friday night football, churches and family farms. Look across your corner of Ohio and see who is near.

The three Cs and the rest

Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and the country in between

Ohio's cities are close enough together that a first date can be in any of them.

Columbus

The capital and Ohio's biggest city, with conservative suburbs such as Delaware County. On fall Saturdays, everything stops for Ohio State football.

Cincinnati and Dayton

Southwest Ohio has some of the state's most conservative suburbs, from Butler and Warren counties to the towns around Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Cleveland and the north

The city votes the other way, but the outer suburbs and the Lake Erie shoreline are full of union families, Catholic parishes and walleye fishermen.

Ohio first dates

  1. A county fair in summer; Ohio has one in every county, and the Ohio State Fair in Columbus in late July.
  2. A drive through Holmes County's Amish country, with pie and a market stop.
  3. A morning walleye charter on Lake Erie, or a walk along the shore.
  4. Cedar Point in Sandusky, if you both like roller coasters.
  5. The National Museum of the US Air Force near Dayton, which is free to visit.

Faith and family in the Buckeye State

Ohio is a state of parish festivals, church potlucks and big family Sunday dinners. Catholic parishes run through Cleveland, Toledo and Cincinnati, evangelical and Methodist churches fill the small towns, and Holmes and Wayne counties are home to one of the largest Amish communities in the country. If you want someone who shares your faith as well as your politics, mention church on your profile. Our Christian conservative dating page has more.

Ohio is easier to cross than you think

Columbus sits roughly in the middle of the state, about two hours or less from Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo. That makes long-ish distance dating easy in Ohio: a Saturday lunch halfway between two cities is a normal plan. Look across your part of the state and the next city over.
